Thresh Top Solo Guide
It has been a week since the launch of Thresh and more and more guides have emerged in the internet. The vast players create all kinds of play styles, including top solo, mid solo and jungle.
I also tried many ways to play the champion since all kinds of guides came out at the beginning of new champion’s release. Last time we talked about jungle Thresh, and today we provide you with solo top Thresh.
There is no need to go through the champion introduction again or you will get bored. And you can check the other two guides, jungle and general. As to skills, you can go to the champion details page.
Now let’s go to the skill analysis directly.
As a new growth champion in League of Legends, the skill means a lot to Thresh. He can deal last hit to collect souls and improve his output and defense ability. Although the skill is not powerful at first, it can bring great effect later. His passive enables his defense ability and ability power bonus even if he’s suppressed.
The skill is just a control to cooperate with junglers to gank and is not effective enough for Thresh in early game. But when I tried top solo Thresh, I found the skill an obvious cast animation. So it can hardly hit champions with displacement skill. Meanwhile, you can reactivate this ability to pull Thresh to the bound enemy or pull the target to your direction for a range if you choose not to reactivate it.
Dark Passage has a great effect on top solo Thresh. You can throw it into the bush to gain vision or throw the lantern to your jungle ally when he ganks and help him to quickly enter the combat between you and enemy top solo champion.
Flay is your chief output skill when solo top. And as the only AOE damage skill of Thresh, it’s of great effect in early game. But pay attention to the spell direction. I died many times just because I got the wrong direction.
The function of The Box mainly reflects in team fight. As the wall of every direction vanishes after Thresh deals damage for only one time, enemies only suffer damage once at most but the 1.0 ability power bonus greatly make up the weakness.
I choose to maximize E first since it has a tremendous effect on top solo Thresh. You can use it to clear lanes quickly and then gank on other lanes. Damnation’s function is not restricted on top lane, and you can also help teammates to grow better.
Other skill points depend on your ideas. And I think you will maximize W before Q since Q is only a control though with great damage yet you can use W to help teammates more often.
After all, League of Legends is a team-based game instead of heroism of one person.
Masteries & Runes
Stress on defense as Thresh has no defense growth. You can only improve your defense ability by collecting souls but Thresh can be very weak if there are few souls. So I choose to enhance defense ability.
Red: Flat Mark of Attack Damage
Yellow: Flat Seal of Health
Blue: Glyph of Cooldown Reduction
Quintessence: Flat Quintessence of Armor
In my opinion, it’s a great choice to enhance attack damage since Thresh gets high AD bonus of passive Q. We don’t need to enhance ability power on purpose in early game as Thresh can get ability power from collecting souls. And we need to increase health and armor runes as Thresh has no armor growth.
As to items, I will say it briefly since I just learn how to play Thresh.
Collect souls when encountering champions with high burst.
Choose to equip healing items when encountering champions with no mana.
You can play aggressively when encountering less powerful top solo champions.
-The end-. Hope it helps.
