Gragas is a very strong ap caster due to his ability of dis-positioning. Gragas is one of the few ap casters with very high mobility, poke and burst damage. He is considered a valuable champion in competitive play because of his pokes and disposition from his ultimate. While playing gragas, your main goal is to farm everything and win your lane. With his high mobility, opportunities for ganks will naturally happen on the map. When an enemy is caught or being chased down, you will surprised of how fast you can get there with his body slam.
PS: I kind of don't like gragas because he is kind of fat and he looks pretty ugly as a champion. I much prefer champions like brand because when you type /taunt , brand like goes super saiyan and looks super sexy and he prolly gets all the girls if he doesnt like burn them to death, you know br0?
I think riot should have made gragas some hot girl with like big boobs, or yeah .. i dunno.
Pros & Cons
- Strong (Solo)-Laner due to lanesustain and good harass
- Strong Early- and Midgame
- Ridiculous Burst potential
- Decent chaser / escaper due to high mobility
- Versatile, unique low-cooldown Ultimate.
- The satisfying "bump"-sound knowing that you just buried a poor frost archer underneath your blubbery tummyrolls.
- Rather weak Lategame
- Subpar compared to regular casters, because...
* Less offensive spells. (2.5, while other casters have 3 or even 4)
* Body Slam very risky and rather ineffective in teamfights.
* Less reliable spells. (3 Skillshots)
* Rather long cooldown on his main damage nuke.
- Terribly placed Ultimate can screw over the whole team.
A.K.A the Laning Phase
Gragas is a boss in lane, and its arguably his strongest phase. Gragas needs a lot of farm so he really does need to dominate his lane or he needs to farm a lot mid game.
Hopefully you get a solo lane, and you can dominate your enemy. If your facing
(only pre 6 then things equal out),
(till 9, but who doesnt beat on vlad till he is 9 lol),
. It should be an easy easy win for you. The thing is a lot of people underestimate gragas' damage in lane and get aggressive, bait them into leaving there creeps to harass you, then body slam them for pain and follow up with a barrel roll. From them on they wont come back soon :), then you should be able to zone them from there own creeps and if they come close B slam them and use your rotation again.
If you have been harassing your lvl 6 shd be an easy kill, the minute you get your ult and if your enemy is around 50 percent hp, get really aggressive. If you land a body slam, do a quick barrel roll, then use your cask to pull them in lane, start chasing and slam, barrel, + ignite for the kill.
Two things new gragas' forget to do in lane, 1) They are to passive : remember you have 10 percent damage reduction, lots of regen, and good base power spells. Be agressive, but not too agressive haha. 2) They forget to Auto Attack, remember gragas has a +30 dmg buff your auto attacks hurt, please use them.
Gragas is prolly one of the most farm dependent champs in the game. Save for late game carries. He needs to be heavily farmed to function well. Luckily you farm well. You have 3 AoE spells for clearing creep waves, and a dmg buff for easy last hitting.
If you are winning your lane, save your mana for harass, and just last hit. If you are losing just barrel from safety and farm farm farm.
To be honest if you aren't a creep farmer at heart, dont play gragas because you need your farm.
This is when team fights start, you should have your Boots, Spirit Visage and Sunfire/ FoN and working on the counterpart. Your Crazy Hard to Kill, and still do bad ass damage.
If you have good initiation dont use your explosive cask to initiate unless you find someone out of position.
During the fights if your carry has good positioning and isn't getting picked on bee line for the enemy teams carry. Body Slam, Barrel roll should put him in a world of hurt and he should start running, dont pursue him if your team is getting killed by the remaining members of the enemy, if you disable there carry go back and help your team, if your team is winning finish that carry off. You should be at 40 percent cdr or close to, so your damage is pretty consistent.
If your carry IS getting picked on however, and your real tank is protecting her, ult off anyone on him/her and body slam on to the enemy. Now he is away from your carry and slowed. If your carry has a brain she should be putting the deeps on the guy and you should be able to finish him off.
If your team is behind and you shouldn't be team fighting use your ult to throw there initiator away and GTFO out of there.
Same team fighting as mid game its just that your damage is lowered now, so you should start on your offensive items now. Remember full tank Gragas isn't that great. :(
Playing as Gragas late game is all about doing good barrel rolls and using your Explosive Cask effectively. You never want to go in and use body slam on the enemies... unless it is a small engagement. In a 5v5 situation, you should never use body slam until the fight dies down and the number of enemy champions reduce till like 2 or 3 champions left. * unless the situation allows you to body slam in, without being punished for it. Generally you should be focused down late game, when you body slam in. You can easily burst targets down with your explosive cask and barrel roll combo. I usually aim to land this combo on the enemy AD carry, AP carry or solely aim for the numbers of champions I hit. Playing Gragas is all situational, and you'll learn most things by just playing him.
Well, that's finally it. The end of the line. I hope somebody actually bothers to read through this novel and that it's actually going to be useful for someone. Please make sure to rate and especially comment - I'm always open for feedback.
